Vote 2026: Chilliwack DPAC executive distances itself from racist school board candidate's comments
Cary Moore resigned from DPAC six months ago before he could be booted off for virulent Islamophobic social media rant

The Chilliwack School Board election is off to an oh-so-Chilliwack start as the Chilliwack District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) executive issued a statement Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2026) distancing itself from trustee candidate Cary Moore due to his angry Islamophobic content shared on social media.
A member of the Strathcona Elementary PAC, Moore served as the Indigenous representative on the Chilliwack DPAC temporarily, resigning in March after the executive confronted him for his ignorant comments ordering for the deportation of all Muslims, shutting down schools and mosques, and declaring Islam a "hostile political threat to western democracy."
Moore was not elected to the role on the DPAC executive, it was explained by a source, he simply filled an empty position.
That Islamophobic post was from six months ago. In a comment shared by others this week, Moore also apparently referred to teachers as "groomers," a term referring to people who exploit children for nonconsensual sexual activity.
The Chilliwack DPAC issued the statement Tuesday in response to the concerns about Moore's religious extremist comments getting ahead of the fact that it would come out that he was on the council. In the statement, the executive pointed out that Moore resigned in March, which is around the time that he made the Islamophobic post.
"At that time, DPAC raised concerns with Mr. Moore regarding the expectations and responsibilities outlined in our code of ethics, including our duty to respect the diversity of our school community and to keep student well-being at the centre of our work. These expectations reflect our mission, values, and purpose, and our broader duty to serve all families and learners within School District 33."
The executive said Moore's personal views expressed during his time on DPAC or since his resignation do not represent their views.
"Chilliwack DPAC remains firmly committed to representing the diverse families and students of School District 33 with respect, equity, and inclusion, and expects that same commitment from anyone who serves or has served on our executive."
Moore is part of a conservative Christian slate of candidates calling itself Trustees for Change started by incumbent trustee Richard Procee's wife Tera Procee.
