Montreal shooting illustrates how right wing activists provoke young men to incel ideology, then flip the script when tragedy strikes
Rebel News demagogue Ezra Levant shares Montreal shooter’s manifesto, somehow claiming killer's views were like ‘half the Liberal cabinet’

Misogynistic white supremacists who turn from basement-dwelling conspiracy theorists into killers often have a laundry list of supposed enemies. It starts with women, but often includes immigration, mainstream politics, the 2SLGBTQ+ community, liberals, capitalism, Muslims, Jews, other religious and ethnic minorities.
It’s impossible not to label these (almost exclusively) young men far right extremists, but the supposed incel movement – if it can be called a “movement” – cannot be lumped into the increasingly anachronistic dichotomies of “right” or “left.” (Incel is of course shorthand for “involuntarily celibate.”)
Clearly, however, the angry entitled virgins who make up the incel movement blame their bad luck with girls on the establishment and mainstream modern culture. This then gets targeted specifically at groups who were marginalized for the most of the history of western civilization, but who have been given (or rightly taken) more equality over the last half century: women, gays and lesbians, immigrants, religious minorities. Equality looks like disentitlement to these angry young white males who ignore history, influential purveyors of toxic masculinity to lowly incels.
The correlation to MAGA-esque “drain the swamp” ideology is direct, and the incels whose words end up being heard or read are clearly provoked or created by far-right firebrands such as Andrew Tate or Donald Trump.
All that is to say that Seth Hatfield who killed a police officer and a civilian on Monday (June 22, 2026) in Montreal shared a rambling 104-page manifesto, mostly against women and the men who get to have sex with women.
Among the laundry list of Hatfield’s enemies was the pornography industry, which is apparently why he travelled from Lethbridge, Alberta, to target the Montreal head office of Pornhub.
To read that manifesto and come to the conclusion that Hatfield was a communist and “left-wing extremist” could only be done by someone such as delusional demagogue Ezra Levant who spews his views via his far right media outlet, Rebel News.
Levant says the ramblings in the shooter’s tome were “indistinguishable from left-wing politicians like Bernie Sanders, Avi Lewis, or half the Liberal cabinet.”
Levant posted his rant with a link to a PDF of the manifesto – which for some weird reason has a watermark with the Rebel News logo on each of the 104 pages – posting: “Click here to read the manifesto of a crazed, left-wing extremist. Never forget: the mainstream media lies to you about everything important.”
Pure incel nonsense
Israel is run by far right politicians who get away with war crimes because they are supported by conservative politicians and governments around the world. Despite that, it is an act of delusional mental gymnastics and a trampoline-assisted leap of logic to say that since white supremacists and incels are usually also anti-semitic, therefore they are also communists and left-wing extremists.
Ezra Levant makes that leap.
Seth Hatfield’s male persecution complex articulated across 55,667 words is itself the most convoluted act of mental gymnastics. It is a tome of articulate but pseudo-philosophical claptrap masking nothing more than his own anger that he never kissed a girl.
It is pure incel garbage.
It begins with this sad and innocent enough first line of the preamble: “This work delivers an explanation of the very peculiar and ghastly state of things that the western world has found itself in, especially regarding the situation of terrible loneliness, isolation, and social degradation that is now a stark reality for many men of varying ages across our societies.”
But it ends with an edict to his fellow incels who he hopes might read it to go out and kill the rest of us.
Throughout, is nothing more than longwinded and convoluted paragraphs rife with logical fallacies to attempt to prove his only point: All the women in modern western society are copulating “as they please with a plethora of attractive males.”
Somehow he both claims that all women are mating with multiple attractive males while the math implies that the attractive males are mating with multiple women. Essentially, there is a global orgy involving all women and only the attractive males leaving out he and his fellow outraged incels.
It’s FOMO writ large. It’s quite a theory. It’s sad, nonsensical, and for whatever reason, festered in his brain so completely that he committed these murders of strangers in a failed attempt to kill those behind a massively profitable pornography aggregator.
That Ezra Levant could turn this into a political conspiracy of the mainstream media to keep him out of reading the manifesto (until he got his hands on it) so he wouldn’t learn that it was really about a communist plot to overthrow the west, is maybe as disturbing as the idiotic manifesto itself.
Levant is also so deep in a deluded self-created conspiracy that the government and the mainstream media are a cabal colluding to destroy pure and true conservatism that when he sees a screed saying something similar written by a young man who turned out to be a murderer, he tells the world up is down, black is white, and an incel extremist is actually a communist.
You know, just like the prime minister of Canada.
“He praised communism,” Levant writes. “He called for the abolition of private property. He railed against the Jews, and Zionism. And – like Mark Carney himself – he demanded the censorship of the Internet.”
