Fraser Valley man behind wacky viral federal election campaign video pleads guilty to possession of cocaine & firearms

Despite being found with score sheets and a hand grenade, Wyatt William Scott's guilty pleas to lesser offences avoid trafficking, explosives charges

When the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a rural east Chilliwack property almost four years ago, they uncovered cocaine, fentanyl, meth, evidence of drug trafficking, multiple loaded firearms and a hand grenade.

They also found several people in possession of various amounts of crack cocaine and/or fentanyl, at least three of whom are well-known to Chilliwack police and the courts.

Wyatt William Scott had a plastic bag with 27 grams of cocaine in the front pocket of his hoodie.

A subsequent search of the property turned up a German Ruger 10/22 with a 110-round magazine, a Henry repeating arms .22-calibre rifle loaded with 13 cartridges, and another .22-calibre Ruger with a Butler Creek 25-round magazine with 24 cartridges and one live cartridge chambered.

They also found, among other things: 32 grams of psilocybin and psilocin (magic mushrooms); small amounts of methamphetamine, gabapentin, morphine and MDMA (ecstasy) or derivatives; metal pots with cocaine residue; a functional scale with cocaine and meth residue; more firearm magazines; and a hand grenade in a cubby next tot a fireplace. In Scott’s Mercedes car officers found brass knuckles in the console.

Scott was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, making or possessing explosives, careless storage of a firearm, and three criminal code firearms offences for unauthorized possession.

Despite all of the above discovered on the property and after some negotiation between Crown counsel and Scott’s lawyer, he pleaded guilty on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) to one count of possession of a firearm without licence and/or registration and possession of cocaine. 

As Crown counsel read out the laundry list of items seized during the raid of the property, Judge Peter Whyte interrupted to ask what the relevance of score sheets and scales were if he is no longer charged with drug trafficking. It was explained the items might be relevant when it comes to aggravating factors at sentencing.

In a case involving a property with multiple buildings, several bedrooms, and at least five people found with illegal substances on them, proving possession of many of the other items on the property would likely have been a challenge for Crown, hence the plea to the lesser offences.

Scott was in courtroom 205 on Wednesday wearing a pink T-shirt, baggy faded jeans, and alligator skin shoes with his hair in a pony tail. 

The agreed statement of facts was read out in court after which Judge Peter Whyte took Scott’s pleas to the two counts. The case was put over to a sentencing hearing that Crown and defence agreed will be contested. Crown proceeded by indictment rather than summarily, which is more serious. The firearms offence comes with a maximum sentence of five years, the cocaine possession seven years.

Wacky campaign video

Wyatt Scott ran for federal Parliament for the riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon in 2015 during which he created a bizarre campaign video that garnered international attention. 

The video was still up as of July 22, 2026, and had 1.6 million views on YouTube with more than 1,000 comments. The Washington Post did a story under the headline: “This Canadian campaign ad is amazing – and by amazing, we mean utterly insane.”

The video looks like a spoof out of a sit-com or something shared on a late night talk show.

“Hey I'm Wyatt Scott and I'm running for Parliament for the new riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon,” he yells into the camera as he rides on a computer-generated flying Canada Goose while brandishing a broad sword.

“I'm an independent candidate, and I'm here to fight for Canadaaaa!”

In the video he falls from the sky, lands on a dragon, stabbing it in the head with his sword. He then walks towards the camera while declaring that university is “too damn expensive” before catching a falling gender non-specific person in his arms, then he fist bumps a space alien. That's all in the first 25 seconds.

That election was won by Liberal Jati Sidhu who edged out Conservative Brad Vis. Third was New Democrat Dennis Adamson, fourth was Arthur Green of the Green Party, with Scott finishing fifth with 754 votes or 1.7 per cent. He wasn’t last, however, as Marxist-Leninist Elaine Wismer received 139 votes.

Scott took another run at office in 2018, seeking Mission’s mayor’s chair. He earned 723 votes (8.24 per cent), finishing third out of four candidates.

Despite the inanity of his 2015 campaign video, and his odd independent campaign run for Parliament, Scott is and has been involved with several serious matters. In July 2023, he was involved in a protracted standoff with RCMP officers including Emergency Response Team members at a home in Garrison Crossing. Police attended based on a report that someone was allegedly being held against their will and that an individual at the location had access to firearms.

The then 45-year-old Scott was subsequently charged with forcible confinement, assault, administering a noxious substance with intent to endanger, sexual assault, trafficking in a controlled substance, and, trafficking in persons under 18, and two breaches of previous court-ordered conditions.

The alleged breaches are in connection with alleged incidents including a sexual assault charge from April 15, and on May 3 charges of B&E, administering a noxious substance, forcible confinement, and several firearms charges.

Back in 2018, Scott went on trial for sexual assault after being accused of making unwanted sexual advances to an employee at the Mission rock-and-gem business he and his wife own. He was acquitted in May 2018, based on insufficient proof that Scott had acted without the consent or without believing there was consent.

He is next scheduled for the cocaine and firearms charges in October in advance of sentencing.
