Former Chilliwack elementary school teacher facing new charges in Kelowna 12 years after child porn conviction

Former Chilliwack elementary teacher John Patrick Davy who was sentenced to federal time over a decade ago for possession and distribution of child pornography is facing yet more charges in Kelowna.

It was reported on this site in February that the 56-year-old Davy – who legally goes by Jason John Davey now – was charged with one count of possession of child sex abuse/exploitation material in Kelowna.

That charge had a listed offence date of July 24, 2025. Davey had several non-consequential court appearances over the spring until he was back in court on July 11. That’s when two new charges were added to the file that were sworn the day before. 

He now faces a second count of possession of child sex abuse/exploitation material also from July 24, 2025 in Kelowna as well as one count of importing or distributing child sex abuse/exploitation material with an offence date of March 23, 2025.

Eleven years before those alleged offences, Davy was in courtroom 203 at the Chilliwack Law Courts reading a statement at his sentencing hearing, holding back tears with hands shaking.

He said he was privileged to teach at the “country school”  that was “tightly-knit by a sense of shared values of faith and services to others.”

Pointing out how he was invited into their homes and churches, Davy gushed a shallow apology to those in Greendale.

“I am deeply anguished by your collective anger and disappointment, and live in hope that one day you will allow a measure of forgiveness in your heart for my actions.”

A search of the hard drive and computers turned up more than 27,000 child porn images, 866 videos and 600 text files with pornographic stories about children as well as 32,572 images of naked or partly naked children and almost 67,000 “child-relevant” images.

While he was out on bail after being charged in advance of trial in 2014, Davy went to Kelowna where on Sept. 12, 2014, he was caught with a computer that had more than 1,000 child porn images, 321 photos of naked or partly naked children that did not meet the definition of child porn, and 668 child-relevant images.

Fast forward 12 years to today in Kelowna, he now faces similar serious charges. Davey goes by JD Quizman on Facebook, the moniker connected to his work for a company that hosts trivia nights at bars and pubs in Kelowna and Kamloops. He has posted about his “Tremendous Trivia” nights as recently as early 2025 on Facebook, the same year he posted several photos of an extended vacation he took to the Philippines.

Has he acted out? 

When Davey (then Davy) was sentenced in 2024, Judge Roger Cutler stated that Davy had never acted out on his child sexual fantasies. 

His Chilliwack lawyer Martin Finch similarly asserted during sentencing submissions on June 6 that despite teaching for 16 years, he had “never” had anyone come forward with an accusation of being touched. Crown at the time, however, pointed out that there was a story Davy wrote about sexually assaulting a child, and a bucket list that included the desire to have sex with a child, 

But in 2009, three female Grade 6 students at Greendale elementary did indeed complain about being repeatedly sexually touched by Davy. The case was never forwarded to the RCMP for investigation because the school district rejected the student’s complaints after an internal investigation.  

The mother of one of the girls who alleged Davy touched her told me she was threatened by the school district with legal action if she spoke out, an accusation never confirmed.

In an as-of-yet unpublished video interview for companion podcast Something Worth Hearing, I spoke to one of those girls who is now a young woman who complained about what a traumatizing period of time that was in elementary school that affects her to this day. As a victim, the name of the young woman who was in grade 6 at the time at Greendale Elementary will be protected.

She said the class was co-taught by Davy and the vice-principal with Davy there three days a week.  

“He had assaulted me a couple times,” she told me. “Like it wasn't a one-off thing, like it had happened a few times…. As a child, you’re taught to trust a teacher and so I just wanted to believe that it was happening by accident, obviously. And then I watched him do it to my friend and he did it right in front of me and like he looked me in the eyes while he touched her.”

Then there was a third girl who went home and told her mother who called the school, which is when the school “investigated” the allegations. The girl who spoke with this reporter said she actually didn’t want to come forward at the time but she was forced by this other girl's allegations. She knows now as an adult that her reluctance was because of shame, but all three girls were brought into the office and interrogated about the allegations.

“I told [the vice-principal] what happened and then she was like ‘But are you sure? Are you sure this is what happened?’” she said. 

She said Davy would repeatedly touch her bum in class and in the school yard on the way into school. She also saw him do it with the other girls. One time after a school vaccination she was crying and Davy insisted she come over to his desk where he stroked her back extensively and then touched her bum. 

After the meeting with the vice-principal and or principal, she said there was another meeting with someone from the school district and she thinks the teachers’ union. Davy was then gone from the school for approximately a month and the girls were ordered to keep quiet about what happened to them. 

She said there was no outside investigators brought in. Police were not involved. Eventually Davy was back in the classroom and the girls simply had to deal with it.

“I just remember floating through that year and trying to survive it,” she said.

All of that was five years before Davy was convicted for having a massive collection of child abuse and exploitation material. He was teaching that whole time. 

“There's no fucking chance it was just those three,” she said. “Like I was saying earlier, I did see him tap or touch other girls on the bum.”

Meanwhile, in 2026, a woman in the Williams Lake area claims Davy tried to take her five-year-old daughter at a campground in August 2025. She said she has police files open in Williams Lake and Quesnel. She’s been told it is an ongoing investigation, but she similarly feels she isn't being taken seriously. She has complained about the RCMP handling of the case to the independent Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC). 

Davey is due for a first appearance in Kelowna provincial court on August 13 to face the new child abuse and exploitation material possession and distribution charges, as well as for a next appearance on the original charge from January.

None of the allegations about child pornography Davey faces have been proven in court. And Davey has not faced charges for the allegations of sexual touching 17 years ago or for the allegation about an alleged abduction in 2025.
