Whatever happened to Timothy Delahaye? Six years later, a cross-border mystery still unresolved
29-year-old went missing after planning to hike from Columbia Valley into the U.S. in April 2019
On Monday, April 29, 2019, Timothy Delahaye was dropped off by a friend on Frost Road in the Columbia Valley south of Cultus Lake.
Delahaye’s intentions, apparently, were to hike into the United States where he planned to attend a religious retreat.
There is no legal border crossing in this area but there is a stretch on Henderson Road in Canada that runs along the border, farms on both sides of the 49th Parallel. To avoid illegally crossing in the open, from the southernmost part of Frost Road it is not much more than one kilometre, as the crow flies, to the border. The terrain, however, is quite rugged over that short distance. (See map below.)
The then 29-year-old last spoke to his family and friends on May 1, 2019. No one has heard from him since. Despite the efforts of Search and Rescue, RCMP helicopters, drones, and possible sighting tips, no confirmed sign of Delahaye or his belongings has ever been found.
An investigation into his phone calls on May 1, 2019, led police to believe he was still in Canada at the time of those calls.
In June 2025, RCMP Investigators are again asking anyone who may have been in this area or the surrounding mountains between April 29, 2019, and May 1, 2019, and believe they may have seen Delahaye, or any of his belongings, to contact the Chilliwack RCMP.
While years have passed, Delahaye was carrying some very distinct possessions that could have been abandoned anywhere. The photo above was taken of Delahaye on April 29, 2019 when he was dropped off by his friend. He is photographed with a blue backpack, a blue hydration pack, a red passport-sized satchel around his neck, and a can of bear spray in his cargo pants.
The clothes and the gear in the photograph are some of what investigators are hoping to find.
Timothy Marc Delahaye is described as:
• Caucasian male;
• 193 centimetres (6" 4') tall;
• slim build;
• reddish-brown hair;
• blue-green eyes; and
• wearing a dark blue jacket, turquoise shirt, and green pants.
If anyone has any information on Delahaye’s whereabouts or knows of the location of any of his belongings they are asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-702-4017, email UFVRD_Media@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
