Images from Thursday show City of Sumas inundated by water that's at least temporarily stopped from moving north by Southern Railway

A view from a commercial plane after taking off from Abbotsford International Airport en route to Edmonton on Dec. 11, 2025 shows the severe flooding in Whatcom County in Washington State just over the Canada-U.S. border at Sumas.

With the water flowing north from the flooded Nooksack River, the City of Sumas was inundated by flood waters. As the water crept across the border, at least when this video was taken, the water was stopped at the Southern Railway line.
