17-year-old who is 'well-known' to police charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

A 17-year-old boy is facing criminal charges arrested for pointing a replica Glock handgun and making threats to a stranger near Promontory and Teskey roads in Chilliwack in the early hours Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2025)

The person who was allegedly threatened called police with a report that a group of four male youths were in the area and one pointed the gun at him and threatened him.

Without any ability for the complainant or police to tell if the gun was real or not, multiple officers were dispatched and found all four youths fleeing. Frontline officers engaged in a foot pursuit catching and arresting three of the four, one of whom had a tan replica Glock 19X handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants.

The 17-year-old male from Chilliwack, who can't be named, was transported to Chilliwack RCMP cells and held in custody pending a bail hearing. He has since been released to the care of his "guardian" under court-imposed conditions, according to an RCMP news release.

The youth, who does not have a criminal record but is well-known to police, is charged with assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

“This incident underscores the dangers posed by replica firearms and the importance of swift, coordinated police response” Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill said. “Police must treat all firearm-related reports as real and respond accordingly to protect the public. Individuals who openly carry replica firearms in public should expect a high-risk police response.”
