Chilliwack father of three died after 'altercation' outside Liquid Zoo bar three years ago

A 43-year-old man from Kelowna is facing a jury trial for manslaughter in September for allegedly killing a former Chilliwack man in a fight outside a bar in 2022.

A man police believe to be Matthew Reimer was seen in surveillance footage released by the Kelowna RCMP after the killing of Nicholas Epp outside The Liquid Zoo on Aug. 12, 2022. Police shared the footage with the media several weeks after the incident.

Police describe the incident as an 'altercation' outside the nightclub at approximately 11 p.m. that night. The man fled the scene on foot.

A year later, Reimer was charged with manslaughter. He had a brief court appearance on Thursday (July 17, 2025) according to Castanet. His jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 2 to 26, 2025.

Reimer is out of custody having been released on $2,500 bail in June.

Epp and his wife had moved to Kelowna from Chilliwack with their three children just that year. In February 2022, Epp was in the news because of his public banishment from Sardis Elementary school property for his protests against pandemic restrictions. Parents expressed concern in about his behaviour, which included offering to fight another parent who disagreed with his politics.

Asked to comment on the matter at the time, Nicholas declined but Dottie incorrectly claimed they weren't banned for protesting but because they were displaying the Canadian flag in support of Olympic athletes. They moved to Kelowna not long after.
