While facing at least eight years in prison, William Dow asked for postponement a week prior to visit sick mother

Two months ago, William Michael Dow was in courtroom 203 on expecting it to be his last day of freedom until 2030 or so.

The drug dealer convicted of trafficking with firearms charges who also tried to bribe a prison guard is going away for eight years, if he’s lucky and his lawyer conviced the judge that “upper single digits” was appropriate.

If instead Judge Peter Whyte agrees with Crown, it’ll be more like 12 years.

But that day, April 17, 2025, Judge Whyte put his decision over to June 17. That’s when Dow asked the judge to put it over again briefly so he could visit his sick mother in Prince George. Judge Whyte agreed and the date was set for today at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25.

Dow’s lawyer Jayse Reveley was there. Crown counsel Rebecca Gill was there as was Crown from another jurisdiction via video. Judge Whyte was there. Two acquaintances or family members were in attendance.

But no Dow.

It was adjourned while his lawyer tried to track him down, acquaintances did too. Cops went to knock on doors where they thought Dow might be to no avail.

“At this point I have no new information about his whereabouts or his inability to attend,” Reveley said.

Gill outlined the background about the mother story from a week prior so that it was on the record, pointing out that Dow is facing a “lengthy” custodial sentence.

With patience, Judge Whyte said there wasn’t sufficient evidence to suggest Dow had absconded so they would proceed in absentia, so he issued warrants for his arrest at 10:23 a.m.
