Homicide investigators now on case of suspicious death at Menno Home in Abbotsford
Abby PD's major crime unit hands file over to Integrated Homicide Investigation Team
The province's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now on the case of a suspicious death on July 10, 2025, four days after two patients were transferred to Abbotsford Regional Hospital from Menno Home in Abbotsford.
Menno Home is a long‑term care facility for seniors with more intensive needs, such as those living with dementia. The facility transferred the patients to hospital on July 6 as they were experiencing medical emergencies deemed suspicious by hospital staff who alerted the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD).
One of the two individuals taken to hospital died on July 10, and the investigation was handed to AbbyPD's major crime unit. It was called a "complex case" by AbbyPD media spokesperson Paul Walker in a release from July 26, who also said Menno Home "immediately implemented additional safeguards to protect the well-being of its residents."
Police did not release the name of either individuals taken to hospital.
Three days after the initial news release, on July 29, an AbbyPD statement said the major crime unit was actively investigating along with other law enforcement partners and medical professionals.
"Investigators have been diligently following the evidence to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death of one individual and the hospitalization of another from Menno Home."
The case is now in the hands of IHIT and anyone with information is asked to contact them at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
